The 1880 Shiraz is a full bodied wine with blackberries, blueberries, pepper, dried herbs and oak characters. Small batch open ferment. Matured in French oak barriques for 20 months.
Fruit from the original 1880 planted vineyard (only 0.8 acres). It is believed to be the 2nd oldest Shiraz vineyard in the region, the 7th oldest in Australia and one of the oldest ones in the world. Only 912 vines remain.
In the vineyard the team deliberately stress the vines with minimal intervention to get maximum concentration of flavaour. Yields are an average of 1.5 tonne to the acre.
This is a powerful wine that needs decanting and that will reward cellaring for 15 years or more.
