Heathvale The Belief Sagrantino 2013

Sagrantino is an Italian grape variety, very high natural tannins. The Heathvale version spends a short time on skins before being pressed off into barrel so doesn’t have as much tannin as might be expected from the variety; easier to drink as a younger wine.

This wine has a wildly exotic nose of sugar-dusted Turkish delight, followed by a plump but tart damson palate, fresh notes of tobacco and a mazy finish of clean acidity and grainy tannin. A wine of savory, well-worked texture, and a welcome friend to rich dishes such as pulled-pork, roast duck and cassoulet.

Feature full heathvale

Moving to Eden Valley and the old ‘Heathvale’ property in the mid 1980’s we learnt bits about its history from local residents until a chance visit by one of William Heath’s daughters, in her 90’s, opened up a whole new dimension for us.
