Henschke Eden Valley Tilly's Blend
Background: The Tilly's blend is named as a tribute to Stephen’s great-aunt Ottilie Mathilde ‘Tilly’ Henschke. One of the many remarkable pioneering women of the era when daily life saw them work the land, grow their own produce and raise a family; a far cry from the ease of today.
Vineyard: Sourced from a selection of estate and growers vineyards throughout the Barossa's Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills region.
Season: The vintage began with well below-average winter rainfall, followed by a warm and dry spring, which enhanced flowering to ensure above-average yield potential. Low disease pressure was maintained by one of the hottest Decembers on record, though temperatures cooled down in the New Year with rain falling around veraison (late January). Hand managed canopies ensured open, light and airy vines could ripen fruit to a high quality with a broad spectrum of fruit flavours.
Wine making: An aromatic blend of 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Semillon, 14% Pinot Gris, 13% Riesling and 8% chardonnay were grown at Henschke Adelaide Hills Lenswood and Eden Valley vineyards. Wine grapes were hand picked, fermented in tank and bottled post-vintage to preserve the wine’s fragrant characteristics.
Appearance: Pale straw-gold with lime-green hues.
Aroma/Bouquet: Fragrant aromas of guava, white nectarine, yellow peach, apple and gooseberry, with floral hints of white petals and clover blossom. Underlying notes of sherbet, lemon curd and lime leaf.
Palate: A textural palate of stone-fruit and apple flavours with dried herbs, hints of nashi pear, white currant, mint and lime leaf, supported by a ripe citrus acidity. Luscious citrus fruits develop to a mouth filling finish.
Food Pairing: Seared Scallops, Coffin Bay Oysters and lemon wedges or try Snails with garlic, fennel and white wine butter sauce.
